Day 3

Started off the day with a beautiful sunrise outside our barndominium.
We’re off for another hike. There were a couple of men who ride their bikes on the trails a lot (crazy!!) and also do some trail maintenance so we asked them about the route we were planning to take. The first leg, no problem, the second section, VERY hard. Would need to do some bouldering and go through some fractured rocks. Needless to say we ixsnayed that plan. So, we decided to turn off after the first leg and hike the Lower Comanche Trail, which is listed as difficult.

It was a climb but oh the scenery was amazing.

When Colleen said y’all go ahead , I’ll catch up. Vicki said, no trolls left behind. That became our saying if someone was lagging. 😁

Ok. This is not a good sign, no pun intended. We decided after crossing that it was probably there for the crazy bikers.
Our first glimpse of the river today. Sorry about the glare from the sun in the photo.

Tablets of stone. Colleen said we could chisel our birth certs on them. Kody said as long as it’s not our death certs.
Time for a water and snack break. Did you bring the map? No. Vicki did you bring the map? No. Kody says, our survival skills are commendable aren’t they?

Colleen needed a short sleeved shirt so she grabbed this one from Walmart last night. Very appropriate! If it’s too blurry to read it says “straight outta canyon”.

Vicki’s Knickname is Vicki tall stockings. You can probably figure that one out.
Kody was stopping periodically to point out lizards, flora and rock formations. Come to find out they were “catching her breath” breaks. 🀣

We made it to the end of the Lower Comanche Trail and now moving on to other trails to take us back up to the car park.
Had to walk along the road for a bit. Vicki’s allergies have been horrible with all the Juniper, Colleen’s neck has been bothering her a lot, I just hurt pretty much all over and I’m sure Kody has another 10 miles in her. Or maybe she just doesn’t complain as much as the rest of us 🀣.
Checking the map for directions. We were finally in an area with service so could use the cell phone. How reliant we’ve become on technology.
More water along the Cottonwood Trail.

I’m pretty sure my pants and shoes will never look the same.
Must be another “catch your breath break”.
Sand beach along the river.
The end of today’s hike.
Wow! We are all pretty proud of ourselves for accomplishing this feat.
20,860 steps
10.1 miles
64 floors!!! Most of it on a difficult trail.
I guess we were too tired to take a group picture at the end. πŸ€ͺ Once again, the weather was great and we didn’t get the high winds that had been forecast.
Kody said I couldn’t wear my slippers to supper πŸ™.
We ate supper at a place called Feldman’s Wrong Way Diner. They had two model trains going around. May be hard to see.
Tomorrow is our final day of hiking. πŸ™
We plan to take it a little easier and maybe go to the museum in the afternoon.

  1. I don’t know why you couldn’t wear your slippers to dinner. They’re just as cute as can be 😁
