Day 2 - Hike

Kody and two of her dogs. 
We left Kody’s at 8:30, arrived Palo Duro Canyon about 11:30 after one pit stop and once to fill up. Checked in at the office and asked for some info on trails. We decided to do a “6” mile loop. 


Digging out shoes, poles, different clothes, snacks and water. 
And here we go. Don’t we look chipper?
We started off on the Juniper Cliff Side trail. Did I mention that it’s 84 deg, beautiful clear skies and no wind. 

Some of the hills were a bit rough.

After about 3 miles we switched over to Juniper River Side and headed back in the other direction. 

We missed a turn so headed down a treacherous trail to get back to the right trail. 
Finally got a glimpse of the river. 
It is so peaceful here listening to the trickling water. 

We went from the Juniper trail, to the Sunflower trail and now on the Rojo Grande. 



Back at the car after 3 hours. Not so chipper looking now. 
Ended up going 8.5 miles, 17,592 steps, and the equivalent of 23 floors. Whew! Did I mention it was HOT! 
Arriving at our BnB. 

It’s super nice. Not fancy but lots of amenities. There are two bedrooms and a bath downstairs. 
4 beds and a bath upstairs. 
After showers and a little rest, we went into town to eat at Best Thai Restaurant. It was delicious. Made a quick stop at Walmart for some necessary items (like more food and water) 🤣. 
Now we’re figuring out our attack for tomorrow. Red flag warning beginning at noon so we’ll need to get an early start.

    Looks like a fun time though, even if the trail looked a little rough in places. The BnB looks great!! What a fun time you are going to have!!
    I was worried about the wind. We’ve had a lot of that lately. Hopefully you’ll get a nice early start and can do something else “inside” during the worst part of it. Y’all be careful

Day 1 - We’re Off

This is the second of our Spiritual Sisters Sojourns, with hopefully, many more to come. Vicki, Colleen and I left church today and drove to Foss, OK to spend the night at Kody and David’s new house.  We took the dogs for a walk around the property, followed by the cats and greeted by the horses. The weather couldn’t be more perfect. A beautiful fall day with no wind and clear blue skies.  Today, after a good night’s rest, Kody, Vicki, Colleen and I will drive on to Palo Duro Canyon to spend three days and nights, doing some hiking and just enjoying the sweet fellowship of dear friends. We’ve got quite a load, but we’re packed and ready to go. More later.

Day 3

Started off the day with a beautiful sunrise outside our barndominium.  We’re off for another hike. There were a couple of men who ride their bikes on the trails a lot (crazy!!) and also do some trail maintenance so we asked them about the route we were planning to take. The first leg, no problem, the second section, VERY hard. Would need to do some bouldering and go through some fractured rocks. Needless to say we ixsnayed that plan. So, we decided to turn off after the first leg and hike the Lower Comanche Trail, which is listed as difficult.  It was a climb but oh the scenery was amazing.  When Colleen said y’all go ahead , I’ll catch up. Vicki said, no trolls left behind. That became our saying if someone was lagging. 😁 Ok. This is not a good sign, no pun intended.
